What is EMDR?

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is an evidence-based therapy that helps your brain process and heal from distressing or traumatic experiences. Rather than talking through the same events repeatedly, EMDR helps the brain “unstick” memories so they feel less overwhelming. Many people find that even when they understand their experiences logically, their emotions and reactions don’t shift. EMDR works by helping the brain reprocess these experiences so they feel less intense and no longer impact you in the same way. We move at your pace, with a strong focus on safety, grounding, and ensuring you feel supported throughout the process.

What EMDR helps with

  • Trauma / PTSD
  • Anxiety
  • Relationship wounds/trauma
  • Negative core beliefs (e.g., “I’m not good enough”)
  • Stressful or stuck experiences
  • Betrayal / attachment wounds
  • Emotional triggers in relationships
  • Patterns that keep repeating despite insight

How EMDR is different from talk therapy

Many clients come to EMDR after feeling like they’ve “talked about it enough” but still feel stuck. EMDR differs from traditional talk therapy in that it doesn’t rely solely on insight or verbal processing. Instead, it helps the brain reprocess experiences at a deeper, more neurological level—so the emotional intensity and physical reactions tied to those memories can actually shift, not just be understood.

What EMDR feels like in session

You won’t be thrown into your most painful memories right away. We spend time building safety, grounding skills, and making sure you feel in control. When we begin processing, you remain present and supported, and we move at a pace that feels manageable for you.

Common concerns about EMDR

  • “Will I be overwhelmed?” → We go at your pace
  • “Do I have to talk about everything?” → No, not in detail
  • “Will I lose control?” → You are always in control
